I have decided to add a new feature to “Captains Blog”. Beginning immediately other colleagues of mine such as Captain Dale Bennett, Captain Tim Taylor, Dan Schmidt who is President and CEO of Channel 11WTTW Public Television and a NAUI Instructor and other professional divers will be making contributions in the “Captains Blog” section of the online magazine. This addition will afford our subscribers with different outlooks and insights from important people in the diving community. I will personally introduce each individual by publishing a biography so our subscribers are aware of the contributor’s expertise. I will begin today with a friend of mine Captain Dale Bennett who is owner of the MV Enterprise which operates diving charters out of Waukegan Harbor in Illinois. Captain Dale is a technical diving instructor and Great Lakes maritime historian. Many of you have enjoyed his articles on Great Lakes Shipwrecks in our print publication and have read his informed posts in our forums. It is an honor to have Captain Dale as part of our advisory committee.
Captain Dale Bennett Captain Dale Bennett has been diving and sailing the Great Lakes since he was first certified in 1973. He has been certified to teach scuba diving and related courses through eight different agencies and has been certified as an instructor trainer through five of them. From 1995 to 2002 he owned and operated a successful dive shop. He currently teaches courses certified by PADI, SDI, TDI and DAN and holds the certification level of Master Instructor with PADI and Instructor Trainer with SDI, TDI and DAN, teaching recreational, technical and diver first-aid courses. Captain Dale has been a licensed Officer of the United States Merchant Marine since 1990. He currently holds the rank of Master, 100 Tons. For the last fifteen years he has operated the dive charter boat, Enterprise, out of the port of Waukegan on Lake Michigan. Divers throughout the Midwest are drawn to Waukegan to board Enterprise for beginning level, advanced recreational and technical diving.
