OVER THE COUNTER DRUGS AND DIVING

We have just published a magazine article provided to us by Divers Alert Network. You can access the article by clicking on “magazine articles” in the navigation bar. The article deals with using over the counter medications while scuba diving. It is a very informative piece. I have never read an article about diving and OTC drugs and have often wondered about their use. We were never taught anything about OTC drugs when I attended school for Diving Medical Technician or EMT.

Midwest Scuba Diving Magazine is fortunate to have a friend in Christine McTaggart, who heads up the marketing department for DAN. Divers Alert Network has written this educational article just for our Magazine. I have been diving for over 30 years and I myself have often used antihistamines, when I had a cold, to get me through a training day. I have used nasal sprays before dives beyond 200-feet. I have watched many divers take seasickness medication or use “the patch” before boarding a boat for a dive excursion. Every diver should read this piece and evaluate their use of OTC drugs while diving. Your safety while diving may be compromised by not reading this article! Your comments would be welcome under this blog.
